Dressing for the barn doesn’t have to be fancy, but it does need to be safe. Horses are large, powerful animals, and even the gentlest horse could accidentally step on your foot. The barn environment can also include many hazards, such as uneven ground, sharp tools, and heavy equipment. Choosing the right clothing for any horse activity helps reduce your risk of injury.

When working in the barn, you’ll be doing chores like cleaning stalls and grooming horses, in addition to riding. Barn clothes should allow you to move freely, and they must be sturdy enough for the job. Plus, prepare for them to get dirty!
